20 countries, 28 artists. First International Art Symposium Yinchuan, Ning Xia province, 5-22 September 2016, at the invitation of the Artists Association Yinchuan, co-organised by the Inter-Art Foundation Aiud, Romania. Theme: ‘Silk Road China·Better Yinchuan China’ International Art Camp, for building up a platform for exchanges and mutual learning. The theme of the camp speaks to the historic ‘Silk Road.’
My work at this camp referenced the historic Silk Road and the Autumn Moon Festival as well as and the 1687 decision by King Louis XIV to produce silk in Grenada. He provided Grenada (among the French Antilles at the time) with mulberry seeds for planters to cultivate in preparation for silkworms.
After the art camp, I participated in an artist talk on 23 September at the Bookworm Beijing beijingbookworm.com, to mark 2016 as Latin America and Caribbean Culture in China, and presented previous works and projects, plus recent works created in Yinchuan. In my three week sojourn in China, I visited Hong Kong, Zhongshan, Beijing and Yinchuan. Being in the land of my grandfather in the 100th year of his birth, has been the ultimate gift.
