Contemporary Arts Residency in the Swiss Alps – Feutersoey. I arrived in Feutersoey mid-morning on 15 September… was that yesterday? Seems quite aways from my hectic start in London, overnight in Paris, overnight Eurolines to Geneva, then 2 trains to get to Gstaad, and a short drive to Feutersoey. But here I am, and it was all worth it. It is all worth it.
The residency is in an ‘old’ schoolhouse: old in terms of no longer used as a school. Apparently, there were not enough students in this village to justify the maintenance of the school so the commune council merged students into 1 school in the next village. The building, as I understand, was up for lease, and several discussions later, the Open Spaces Residency took ownership. There are 4 levels: basement (shower, storage); 3rd (ground level entrance); 2nd (studios, toilets); 1st (common space, bedrooms). There is a convenient convenience store on the ground level with fresh bread, local dairy and assorted things….handy when the toothpaste I know I brought with me did a disappearing act.
So today is my first official working day at the contemporary arts residency at Open Spaces in the Swiss Alps. In residence are 3 artists: Timo Rytkönen from Finland, Jean Renel Pierre Louis aka Prensnelo, from Haiti/Grenada and myself.
All this fresh cold mountain air, stunning views, walking paths and climbing steps from floor to floor at the residency several times a day, will do me the world of good.
Please join me on this journey, and receive at the end, an original made-in-Switzerland-by me artwork of your very own. Of course, along the way, you get to follow my blog (online or via email), and see progress reports.
