I have just upload to my blog, saying that I have empathised with VG this year and that I am painting what he painted, using Sans Souci as my Arles, and so on. All my backgrounds are red. I have chosen red to lift me out of my blue funk. Nothing like a bit of sunshine to raise the levels of artistic vitamin d and improve your mood. Besides, red is a colour of passion. With luck that will happen with me.
So, on to my next piece. So far I have about 67 canvases that are works in progress, but because I am going to produce as many red pieces based on VG that I can, I am re-canvassing old works, so that I have some uniformity of stretcher size. On top of which there is a feeling if accomplishment when a painting is finished, another cover is thrown over, and I begin again, building literally building on top of a previous work. Don’t know why I have not thought of that before.
On to my next pieces. More still life images. My life is a still life.
These are my sunflowers (crotons) as I worked on them. The vase I created in 1987, using the sgraffito technique on black glaze.
